History of Gilbert
The Arizona Eastern Railway established a rail line connecting Phoenix and Florence in 1902. Since the rail siding was built on land owned by a certain William "Bobby" Gilbert, it was only fitting that this new town was named Gilbert.

Gilbert was incorporated in July 6, 1920 and quickly grew due to its large farming and agricultural community. For its agricultural reputation, it was eventually dubbed as the "Hay Capital of the World."

The town was annexed in the 1970s and from there, its economy has grown immensely. The town is also home to several historical sites such as the Gilbert Historical Museum, the Gilbert Public School District Office, and the Gilbert Water Tower.
